Biography

Prof. Satish Kumar Singh is a Professor in the Department of Information Technology at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad, India, and heads the Computer Vision and Biometrics Lab (CVBL). He joined IIIT Allahabad in 2013 (Assistant Professor 2013–2017, Associate Professor 2017–2025, Professor since 2025) after serving the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology Guna from 2005 to 2012, and has about 25+ years of academic and research experience. His areas of interest include Machine and Deep Learning, Image Processing, Data Compression, Histopathology Image Analysis, Biometrics, and Thermal Imaging. He has supervised 14 PhD and 48 Master's theses, with 9 PhD scholars presently in the group, and has published 130+ articles in IEEE/ACM Transactions and journals and at leading conferences (about 5,800 citations, h-index 31). Dr. Singh is the principal/co-principal investigator of projects funded by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DIPR and Naval Research Board), the Department of Science and Technology (India–Slovenia and India–DAAD bilateral programmes), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs (BPR&D), the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the U.P. Council of Science and Technology, IDAPT-HUB IIT (BHU), the U.P. Electronics Corporation, and IEEE. He is Local Coordinator of the Global Initiative of Academic Network and has served as Associate Dean, and as Registrar (Officiating) of IIIT Allahabad (2022–2024); he is currently Dean, Planning and Development.

In academic service Dr. Singh is Editor of ICT Express (Elsevier) and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence and the Journal of Pattern Recognition Research; he has previously been Associate Editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters and IET Image Processing, and Guest Editor for special issues of Springer's Neural Computing and Applications and Springer Nature Computer Science.

Dr. Singh is a Senior Member of IEEE and a volunteer to the IEEE in many capacities. He is Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter, Uttar Pradesh Section (since 2021) and Vice-Chair of the IEEE India Council; he was Chair of the IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section (2021–2023) and earlier its Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. He is an IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturer (2024–2026), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and the IETE, and was named Fellow of the University of Münster (2026); he has held Visiting Professor positions at the University of Münster (Germany) and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). His recognitions include the Eminent Engineer Award of the Institution of Engineers (India, 2025), the IEEE SPS UP Chapter Mid-Career Teacher Award (2024) and several best-paper awards.

Dr. Singh has convened or chaired CVIP, CVMI, UPCON, CICT and ICCCCN, and coordinated the ADASIVA and CADLA schools and the IEEE SPS Distinguished Lecturer programmes. He founded and continues as faculty counsellor of the IEEE Student Branch, IIIT Allahabad, and is a reviewer for many reputed IEEE, IET, Elsevier and Springer journals.
